RECORD numbers flocked to a community bonfire, with thousands turning out to see the firework display.
This year’s annual Staveley Town Council’s bonfire event saw 6000 people descend on Staveley Hall.
Graeme Challands, the Town Clerk, said: “We had many volunteers from the community who helped to make this year’s event a success and I would like to thank each and everyone of them for their unstinting support, without them it would just not have been possible.
“It’s the perfect example of Community in Action. Staveley is the home of one of the 7 original gunpowder plotters, so has more reason than most places to celebrate 5th November.”
The bucket collection came to over £1000 and Staveley Town Council would like to thank everyone who attended for their generosity, especially in the current economic climate. The winners of the Build a Guy competition were Neve and Hidi Goodlad.
