Re-appeal for witnesses to serious road crash

Police investigating a serious collision near Creswell in north east Derbyshire have renewed their appeal for witnesses.

At about 7.30am on Tuesday February 21 a black Toyota Rav 4 was travelling towards Creswell from the direction of Clowne on the A616 Sheffield Road near Creswell when it was in collision with a blue Decathalon road bike.

As a result of the collision a 79-year-old man, who is from Sheffield, suffered a severe head injury. He was taken to Chesterfield and North Derbyshire Royal Hospital by air ambulance. The man remains in hospital in a serious condition.

Officers have been told by witnesses that a man was walking along the road at the time of the collision. This man is seen regularly by other road users but he has not yet come forward to police.

PC Nigel Varney from the collision investigation unit said: “Even if this man didn’t see the collision I would like to speak to him as he may have a vital piece of information that would help my investigation.

“I’d like him or anyone else who was in the area at the time to ring me on our special witness appeal line on 01773 572929.”
