Chesterfield magistrates’ court heard on Friday how Lindsey Layton, 24, of Thickley Close, Shirebrook, had been unable to pay for food at the Balti Nights when she insulted the owner.

Becky Allsop, prosecuting, said the defendant and another woman struggled to pay so they were not given food and Layton swore at the owner and repeatedly racially abused him.

The defendant told police she had “done a bit of racism” and they should be catching rapists and murderers instead of her. Layton pleaded guilty to causing racially aggravated harassment after the incident in July. Annette Thomas, defending, said Layton had been drinking, had acted out character and has shown remorse. Magistrates fined Layton £128 and ordered her to pay £85 costs, a £20 victim surcharge and £50 compensation.
