Racial attack on taxi driver

A TAXI driver was assaulted and racially abused in Chesterfield.

The 27-year-old driver was parked at the rank in Church Walk at around 12.45am on Saturday, May 19 when he was approached by a couple who asked him to take them to Darley Dale.

As they drove along Whitecotes Lane, the man punched the plastic partition separating the front of the taxi from the passengers in the back, smashing it.

He then racially abused the driver.

The driver stopped and the man got out of the car, pulling the taxi driver out and punching and kicking him.

The driver got up and ran to a nearby house to raise the alarm. He suffered cuts and bruises and was taken to hospital in Chesterfield for treatment.

The man is white and muscular with short, dark, spiky hair. He is in his mid-20s and wore a light-coloured short sleeved t-shirt and jeans. The woman is white and in her early 20s. She had long, black, straight hair.
