Race is on to double Peak charity’s cash

A BUXTON charity is appealing for help from local residents to raise as much money as possible over the next three months.

The Volunteer Centre Buxton and District has been given three months’ free access to the website donation service www.localgiving.com with any donations made up to the amount of £10 being matched by the Derbyshire Community Foundation.

The centre is now asking locals or anyone thinking of donating to charity this Christmas to donate as much as they possibly can to help increase the total raised for vital services run by the organisation.

Money raised will help support the disabled children’s service, so local disabled children can go on fun outings and after school clubs, which is great for the children but also allows their carers to take a well earned break.

Donations could also be used to help support the volunteer transport service, which is vital in helping older people in and around Buxton get to hospital and doctors appointments.

With icy weather at this time of year causing problems for many residents, more than 70 volunteers help older people stay safe through the door-to-door service.

To make a donation, or see the full list of services the Volunteer Centre are fund-raising for, visit the Local Giving page at www.localgiving.com/buxtonvc.

Anyone who would like to make a donation but doesn’t have access to the internet can call the centre on 01298 23970 or pop in to Buxton Volunteer Centre on Buxton Market Place.
