Queen’s cousin takes a tour of Bakewell at its ‘very best’

The Queen’s cousin visited Bakewell’s Agricultural Business Centre (ABC) on Monday before walking through the bustling town on market day.

At the ABC, the Duke was shown around the livestock market and even brought down the gavel on one lot in the main show ring.

He was met at the ABC by Chairman of the District of the Derbyshire Dales Cllr Peter Slack, Deputy Chairman Cllr Carol Walker, Leader of the District Council Cllr Lewis Rose, Deputy Leader Cllr Geoff Stevens and Chief Executive Dorcas Bunton.

The Duke also visited the Voluntary Services offices before walking into town.

In town he toured the busy stall-market before making his way to the town’s Visitor Centre in the Old Market Hall.

Cllr Lewis Rose said: “We were delighted that the Duke of Gloucester took such an interest in the ABC, staying there for well over an hour and chatting informally with local farmers. He really did see the centre and the beautiful town of Bakewell at its very best.”
