CAMPAIGNERS opposed to the filling in of a water-filled quarry where a youngster drowned have been invited to a meeting to discuss the issue with North East Derbyshire MP Natascha Engel.
Ryan Walker, 15, died in an accident while swimming at the Fall Hill Quarry, off Hockley Lane, Ashover, in May 2009, and his Clay Cross family are pleased contractor JC Balls and Sons has applied for permission to fill part of the site.
But since the Fall Hill Landfill Action Group raised objections at an Ashover Parish Council meeting about an influx of lorries, road safety dangers, dust and noise, MP Natascha Engel has arranged a meeting for residents who have contacted her with concerns.
The meeting will be at The Rattle Room, Ashover Parish Council, Milken Lane, from 4pm, on December 9. Derbyshire County Council is to make a decision on the planning application next year.
