Pupils’ annual festive concert is a real cracker

Tuneful Highfields School
pupils got into the festive spirit and struck a chord with audience members at their annual Christmas concert.

Around 20 acts demonstrated a range of music to entertain all the family.

The programme included a mix of jazz, pop, classical and traditional music. Students performed vocal, guitar, violin and piano solos and duets as well as an orchestra, jazz band, clarinet, string, flute and folk groups.

And this year a large junior choir was formed of year seven and eight students, who performed ‘I see the Light, Hakuna Matata’.

They then joined together with the senior choir for ‘Run’ by Snow Patrol.

The concert ended with a mixed choir made up of students and staff singing popular Mariah Carey festive hit ‘All I want for Christmas is you’.

The concert was sadly the last that two members of staff, Jim and Wendy Grady, were involved in as they are set to retire and spend many a year in France.

Kris Rowley, head of music at Highfields, said: “I am so impressed with the quality of our acts.

“And also the outstanding display of commitment, discipline and maturity all of our students really show when it comes to performance time.

“Of course we are sad to say farewell to Jim and Wendy Grady, but I’m optimistic at the new talent coming through and confident that music is thriving at Highfields.

“We’re very pleased with the results and progress we achieve.”

Parent Sue Allen said it was a pleasure to watch the students perform.

She said: “It is beautiful to watch the students show off their talents. It is nice that so many youngsters are still interested in learning a skill and sharing that with all of us – it was great.”
