PREVIEW: Something for everyone at Bakewell Show 2016

The 2016 Bakewell Show takes place this week with organisers optimistic of another successful year.

The two-day main event opens on Wednesday August 3 with a packed programme expected to draw a big crowd.

Bakewell Show manager Janet Bailey said: “We’ve sold more advance tickets so far than in the same period last year, which could be down to people being keen to organise family activities after choosing to holiday in the UK.”

Once again a dedicated equestrian day on Tuesday will precede the rest of the exciting action. Classes this year will include amateur hunter qualifiers for the Royal International Horse Show, and for the Horse of the Year Show.

One of the main attractions at this year’s show will be BBC Big Allotment Challenge judge Jonathan Moseley with expert floral displays and workshops.

Jonathan is also leading Bakewell Show’s first florist competition, to be judged by the public, with entrants competing for £100 in prize money and a free trade stand in 2017.

After trialling a new farmers’ market in 2015, it is set for expansion as 20 of the finest local traders create a mouthwatering destination.

There is a dog show that anyone with a canine friend can enter, with both traditional pedigree and novelty classes.

For something more daring, check out the Royal Signals White Helmets Motorcycle Stunt team, headlining with Titan the Robot in two shows on the Wednesday and one on Thursday.

The other stars of the show will be the animals, with champion bulls and sheep, goats, rabbits and rare Eriskay ponies.
