The thefts are taking place at night in the hours of darkness. Vehicles have been parked on the road and in some instances in pub/hotel car parks.

Detective Constable Andy Ryans from the Chesterfield Volume Crime Team said: “Officers investigating these crimes are keen to identify the people responsible and recover the stolen property. When tools and equipment is stolen it has a great impact on people’s lives that run their own businesses, causing them unnecessary cost and inconvenience.

“We would like to remind people to park in places that have adequate street lighting and CCTV if available.

“Vehicle owners should ensure that no valuables are left on display or in the vehicle overnight. If the vehicle is fitted with an alarm please ensure that this is set.

“We would urge people to keep serial numbers of any valuable tools so that these can be passed to the police should they be stolen.

“Anyone that sees any suspicious activity is asked to contact police on 101.”
