THE ROYAL British Legion Riders roared into town today to help launch this year’s Poppy Appeal for Derbyshire.
They arrived at Chesterfield FC’s B2net Stadium where Spireites chairman Barrie Hubbard and his wife Janet marked the event by buying the first poppy.
Young veteran Aaron Shelton, who lost a leg in Afghanistan, joined them along with Judith Wright whose son died in the conflict in 2007, and serving soldiers.
Mr Hubbard said: “Chesterfield Football Club is proud to be associated with the Royal British Legion and delighted that the launch of the 2011 Poppy Appeal for Derbyshire is taking place at the B2net Stadium.”
The appeal will run until November 13.
