In January, Chesterfield Borough Council announced its Sunday car boot sale at the Proact Stadium – which is one of the biggest in the area – will not take place at the football ground from July after a decision was made by the Spireites.

Earlier this year, the authority submitted a planning application to itself requesting that the sale moves from the Proact Stadium to Rose Hill car park.

The council's planning committee met on Monday and granted conditional permission for the application.

The last sale at the Proact Stadium is due to be held on July 14 with the first one anticipated to take place at Rose Hill car park from July 21.

The sale will operate every Sunday from 8am until 1pm – with traders having access from 7am to set up and will leave by 1.30pm when the car park will re-open.

Councillor Kate Sarvent, the council's cabinet member for town centres and visitor economy, said: "It's exciting to see the car boot sale move to the town centre.

"We have kept existing traders informed of the plans and we look forward to welcoming traders old and new as well as new customers to the car boot sale at Rose Hill car park from July."

Liberal Democrat councillor Ed Fordham, who represents the Brockwell ward and attended the planning committee meeting, said: "It is felt that the car boot sale moving back into the town will aid bring the town back to life.

"With the caveat that the parking has to be handled well and reviewed over the implementation of the new location, this could be a boon to the town."

A council spokesperson said: "Plans have been put in place for traders arriving early to wait on Rose Hill to prevent disruption for residents on nearby streets."

Residents will be able to park in a number of other nearby car parks while the sale is taking place at Rose Hill car park.
