Police tsar gives dog van to rescuers

DERBYSHIRE Police and Crime Commissioner Alan Charles has donated a former police dog van to the county’s mountain rescue operation in support of their emergency work.

The old police vehicle, which is worth £2,000 at auction and was recently decommissioned by the force, has been handed to the Peak District Mountain Rescue Service (PDMRS) to help them with their future efforts.

The organisation operates a round-the-clock emergency service which attends call-outs in response to the police for missing or injured people and consists of entirely unpaid volunteers.

Mr Charles said: “I’m pleased that we have a suitable former police vehicle to donate to the PDMRS to support their valuable work. These people donate their time freely and often risk perilous conditions themselves to help bring loved ones back to their families and I’m very grateful to the service they provide.

“Donating this former police dog van is a fitting way we can show our appreciation of their work.”
