Police officer sacked for texting friend when Amber Peat’s body found - before family informed

A police officer has been sacked after admitting texting a friend saying that Mansfield teenager Amber Peat’s body had been found - before the 13-year-old’s family had been informed.

PC Samantha Goodwin sent a total of three texts to the friend around the time the teen’s body was discovered hanging in undergrowth in Mansfield in May, a disciplinary hearing at Nottinghamshire Police headquarters was told today.

The hearing heard that at least one text message was sent before Amber’s relatives had been informed and several shortly afterwards.

PC Goodwin admitted all the charges laid against her at the hearing and has been found to have ‘harmed the integrity of the force’.

She faced a raft of other misconduct charges and was dismissed from the force on all charges - except those relating to the Amber Peat investigation.
