Residents in Bolsover have been getting a stark reminder to keep their property secure by a community support officer, who has been out on the prowl posing as an opportunist thief.
PCSO Ben Perry, of the Bolsover safer neighbourhood policing team, has been on the lookout for open windows, unlocked doors and valuables which had been left on show.
He said: “The great news is I did get asked what I was doing by one member of the public, and one person also reported to an officer that they had seen me acting suspiciously.
“Information like this, in a real situation, could help officers to prevent an offence or stop a thief.”
“Unfortunately, we did come across insecurities, but we hope, by making people aware, they will take on board our advice.”
