Officers will be issuing leaflets on the Cromford area tomorrow (Wednesday, December 10) in the hope it will jog the memory of anyone who might have seen anything which may help the investigation.

Two men walked into Cromford Post Office, in Scarthin, at about 5.15pm on Wednesday, December 3.

One of the men was armed with what appeared to be a handgun and they threatened staff during the robbery.

The pair, who were wearing masks, then made off with a substantial amount of cash.

Detective Inspector Shaun McElheron, who is leading the investigation, said: “This incident is extremely unusual for Cromford village and has left residents here in shock.

“Although they weren’t hurt physically, staff at the post office were left traumatised by the robbery.

“As part of our investigation, we are heading out into the community to hand out these leaflets, to remind people of the incident and hopefully jog their memories.

“I would urge anyone with any information, no matter how insignificant they think it is, to come forward and speak either to police or anonymously to Crimestoppers.”

Police are particularly keen to speak to anyone who saw two men walking around the Scarthin, Water Lane and Cromford Hill area on the afternoon of the offence.

The men were both white, aged in their late teens or early 20s, of medium build and about 5ft 9ins in height. One was wearing a black beanie hat, while the second was wearing a grey hooded top or coat. One of the men may also have been carrying a bag either on his back or on his shoulder.

Anyone with information should call Derbyshire police on 101, quoting crime reference 51259/14.

You can also call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
