Police issue statement over claims two men approached children in Chesterfield park

Police have issued a statement over claims that two men were 'grooming' children in a Thistle Park in Brimington

A facebook post had warned parents to be aware after claims the men were reportedly promising children Chesterfield FC kits which they had at theirhouse, as well as water guns and energy drinks.

The incident, which was alleged to have taken place on Wednesday evening was reported to police and concerns were circulated on Facebook posts.

One parent, who asked to remain anonymous, said his son was approached by the men in the park. He said: “My son was really scared, it were his first time down the park on his own.”

The incident was reported to Derbyshire police on Wednesday evening, and the men were allegedly caught on CCTV by a nearby convenience store.

This evening a spokesperson for Derbyshire police, said: ”Two men have been spoken to about this incident and officers are satisfied that no crime has been committed, and believe it to have been a misunderstanding.

"We are grateful to the members of the public who contacted us and we would always ask anyone who is concerned about behaviour to get in touch.” Derbyshire police will be undertaking extra patrols over the coming days, and urge people to speak to the officers if they have any concerns.
