Police crack down on mini moto riders in New Mills

Police in New Mills are cracking down on the illegal use of mini motos on bridleways, footpaths and cycle trails, after complaints from walkers on the Sett Valley Trail.

The off-road bikes, including quad bikes, scramblers and scooters, can only be legally used on private land and riders who use them on public roads, footpaths or trails can have their bikes seized and crushed.

New Mills and Hayfield Safer Neighbourhood Team have already issued three mini moto riders with warnings.

PCSO Lee Baker said: “The Sett Valley Trail is enjoyed by many members of the public and they do not expect to be confronted by motor vehicles. It isn’t safe and the dangers that riding a mini moto could pose to walkers, cyclists and horse riders are too high.”
