Police Cadet Naomi Eyre is one of 40 finalists for the CVQO Westminster Award, which recognises the achievements of cadets from the armed forces, police, fire and St. Johns Ambulance or other affiliated youth organisation.

17-year-old Naomi was Chesterfield’s Police Cadet of the Year 2017. She regularly volunteers for fundraising events, and helps out with the new cadets joining the unit as part of her role as a Cadet Leader.

Despite suffering the loss of her grandmother, Naomi continued with her commitment to the Volunteer Police Cadets and helped raise more than £1,000 for cancer research.

Naomi is now currently at a challenging three and a half day selection event in Somerset, which could see her being one of only ten chosen to go to South Africa in July, but will also earn a place at a House of Lords luncheon.

The selection event will put Naomi, who is also a student at St. Mary’s Catholic High School, through her paces through a range of physical and mental challenges.

Other members of her Volunteer Police Cadet Unit at Chesterfield have gone down to Somerset to help support Naomi, with the group visiting Avon and Somerset Police and spending time finding out more about their specialist units.

PC Kim Holden, who is in charge of the Volunteer Police Cadet Unit in Chesterfield, said: “We’re very proud of Naomi and all her hard work which has got her to the shortlist for the CVQO Westminster Award.

“It’s a testament to her dedication, commitment and positive attitude that she has got this far into the process, and we wish her the very best of luck in the next stage.”
