Police in Chesterfield are appealing for information about burglaries in the area.

In the last month there have been 36 burglaries or attempted burglaries at homes in the Chesterfield area. Since the beginning of April there has been an increase of 20 burglaries compared to the same period last year, bringing the total to 214.

DC Damian Lowe from the local CID said: “We’re specifically asking people who see suspicious behaviour to ring us immediately. There have been mentions on Facebook community pages that people have been seen acting oddly but no-one has reported it directly to the police.”

The most recent offence happened between 7am on Saturday December 12 and 7pm the next day at a house on Dunston Lane, Chesterfield.

Burglars broke in through a conservatory window. Jewellery including a charm bracelet, earrings, necklaces and rings were stolen. (Crime number 53872/15).

Another offence happened on Oakley Avenue in Chesterfield between 3pm on Friday November 27 and 2pm on Tuesday December 1. While the occupant was away the back door was forced and the house was searched. Nothing appears to have been stolen. (Crime number 51940/15).

DC Lowe added: “It’s really important that people share information with us or the independent charity Crimestoppers rather than leave comments on social media. By working together the police and the community can prevent and detect crime.”

Anyone who has information that would help the police can ring 101 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
