Police appeal after man assaulted in New Houghton

A Good Samaritan helped a man after he had been assaulted.

Police are appealing for information after a man was assaulted in New Houghton.

At around 6.30pm last night, Wednesday, August 17, a 22-year-old man was walking along Cleveland Road in Stonebroom when a silver Peugeot 206 pulled up alongside him and two men inside, told him to get in as they wanted to speak to him.

He was driven to a house in Portland Street, New Houghton, where he was assaulted.

The victim left the house and was helped by a passer-by, who called police. His injuries are not life-threatening.

Police have arrested two men, aged 19 and 26, in connection with the incident. They remain in custody and are being questioned.

Officers would like to speak to anyone who saw the car in Cleveland Road or Portland Street.
