Police alert after horse kit raids in Ripley and Pinxton

Horse owners are being urged to secure their property following a number of tack thefts in Ripley and Pinxton.

Derbyshire Constabulary revealed that overnight between 5pm, on Sunday, February 15, and 3pm, on Monday, February 16, offenders forced open two locks to gain entry into an outbuilding at a property on Warmswell Lane, in Ripley.

Once they were inside they searched the building - making off with two saddles and three horse harnesses.

Police also confirmed that horse equipment was stolen from a lorry at a site on Pinxton Wharf, in Pinxton, after offenders gained entry to the land and slashed the sides of the vehicle to get inside.

A number of items including bridles, saddles, horse jumps and lunging equipment were stolen during the incident which took place between 4pm, on Thursday, February 12, and 5am, on Friday, February 13.

Safer Neighbourhood Sergeant Neil Glover said: “Following these incidents I would encourage residents, particularly within the equestrian community, to consider their own security by ensuring that any sheds, garages and outbuildings are properly secure and that their valuables are security marked.

“I would like to ask the local community to contact us with any information to the incidents where tack has been stolen to help us to bring those responsible to justice.

“Also, please be aware that if you are offered items for sale then always question where they have come from and why the individual is selling them.

“They could be stolen goods.”

Anyone with any information about either of the incidents is asked to contact police on 101 quoting the crime number CR/6775/15 for the first offence or CR/6617/15 for the second offence. Witnesses or anyone with information can also call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
