Plans to build more than 100 homes in Clay Cross and Wingerworth

The Homes and Communities Agency has submitted proposals to build 75 properties at Coney Green Business Park in Clay Cross.

At least half of the dwellings would be ‘starter homes’ for first-time buyers.

The planning documents state: “The proposed development will deliver a high quality residential development in a sustainable location that is within walking distance of existing community, leisure and public transport facilities.”

The plans say the main benefits of the development would be :

- Meeting the housing needs of the district

- Construction employment for the duration of the building period

- Additional household expenditure in local shops by residents

- Provision of children’s play area and village green

A number of objection letters have been lodged by residents stating concerns such as traffic management, parking and lack of school places.

Meanwhile, another application has been submitted by Stancliffe Homes to build 35 new homes to the rear of Hockley House, Hockley Lane, Wingerworth.

The planning documents state: “The vision for the site is to create a high quality development comprising of up to 35 units, to include a mix of two, three, four and five bedroom homes, including a number of bungalows.

“The site itself is a former garden, which in recent years had become unkempt and overgrown. As Hockley Lane forms a defensible boundary between the built area of Wingerworth and countryside to the east, a sensitive response has been taken to ensure that the character of the site reflects its edge of settlement location.”

Objections include concerns over access to the site, traffic and school places.
