PICTURES: Thousands flock to Chesterfield market festival

Crowds flocked to Chesterfield to take part in the town's annual market festival over the weekend.

The four day event, organised by Chesterfield Borough Council, was held from Thursday 27 to Sunday 30 October and saw thousands of visitors to the town centre.

Events included a 1940s market on Thursday 27 October which saw stallholders in period costume, period vehicles and entertainment as well as the regular Thursday flea market and the chance to meet Roman Gladiators at Chesterfield Museum.

Friday 28 October saw children’s activities in the market place and a children’s painting competition as well as the annual CAMRA beer festival in the Market Hall.

There was music to suit all tastes on Saturday 29 October with entertainment including: reggae, Holymoorside Brass Band, The Buddies, Semi Chorus Choir, Thunderoadz among the stalls of the traditional open-air market.

Young people were able to hold market stalls in a special event on Sunday 30 October and connoisseurs were able to buy top quality produce and crafts from local suppliers at the monthly artisan market, held in association with the Market Co.

Councillor Amanda Serjeant, Chesterfield Borough Council’s cabinet member for town centre and visitor economy, said: “Each year our popular market festival goes from strength to strength.

“This year was no exception with people visiting the events on coach trips from different parts of the country and lots of very positive feedback from visitors about the quality and range of events on offer.”
