PICTURES: Man accidentally crashes car into son's house in Chesterfield

Emergency services were called after the incident which happened on Hornbeam Close, Hollingwood at around 4.20pm on Thursday, May 12.

A police spokesman said the driver of the car was taken to hospital by ambulance, but was not seriously injured.

Joiner, Richard Robinson, who was working at a house two doors up the road at the time, said: “There were three fire engines, the major incident unit, two police cars and two ambulances.

“The front door ended up in the front room, he hit it with such a whack.

“He came out of the car and said I don’t know what I have done - I only came to water the plants, it is my son’s house.

“Then his wife came down and was proper slating him for it.”

Richard said the first thing he noticed was the driver reversing into a side street and then going forwards and stopping at the kerb in front of the house.

“I then heard him revving, stuck up against the kerb, and then the next thing he had disappeared into the house, through a gap between a lamppost and a hedge which when you look at the size of it doesn’t seem possible.”

The vehicle had been removed from the house by 5.30pm and a structural engineer had also attended to make sure the building was safe.

The front of the house is currently boarded up but the car is still there with bricks strewn across its bonnet.

Police have confirmed that despite initial reports no one in the house was injured in the incident.
