Commuters and pedestrians had to battle perilous ice on the roads and pavements across north Derbyshire and Chesterfield today, Friday, January 30.

Following yesterday morning’s snowfall which ground traffic and commuters to a standstill, freezing conditions overnight laid the roads and pavements thick with compacted ice.

The Met Office has forecast more freezing temperatures of around zero degrees centigrade today rising to four degrees centigrade with some sunshine as the day unfolds.

Conditions are expected to remain cold over the weekend but with more sunshine possible.
