Pictures: Chesterfield reopens for business as lockdown restrictions ease

Dozens of people have been pictured in Chesterfield after the town reopened for business and burst back into life following the easing of lockdown restrictions.

Non-essential retailers, pub beer gardens, hair salons, and gyms are permitted to start trading again from today (April 12) as the next phase in the Government’s roadmap out of lockdown begins.

And that has seen people flock out in their numbers as the first rumblings of normality begin to emerge.

Socially distanced queues have been seen at a number of stores, including Primark in Chesterfield town centre where large numbers of shoppers were spotted waiting in line at around 10am – just two hours after it opened.

Elsewhere, many visited beer gardens eager to get that first pint or enjoy breakfast in the sun while others took a trip to the salon, ready for that post-lockdown cut.

Our photographer was out and about during the day to capture that long-awaited moment as people ventured out to shops and enjoyed that first meal or drink outside.
