Chesterfield Borough Council’s planning committee has given Crown Care permission to create the £4million development at the site of the former Walton Hotel on St Augustine’s Road.

The decision was made when the planning committee met remotely this week amid the coronavirus pandemic.

In planning documents, Crown Care promised the two-storey home would be a ‘state-of-the-art’ care facility for the elderly with a ‘vibrant and lively ambience’, providing 64 bedrooms and a ‘safe and homely environment’.

The company added that the scheme would have ‘a wider benefit to the community in increasing the demand for support services’ and would have ‘a positive impact on local values and may provoke other capital investment in the area’.

It is expected to create around 70 full and part-time jobs in the community and staffed 24 hours a day.
