Earlier, the council announced that it had postponed or cancelled all performances at the Winding Wheel and Pomegranate theatres up to and including May 2.

Chesterfield Museum, the Visitor Information Centre, Hasland Village Hall and the Assembly Rooms are also closed until further notice.

Councillor Tricia Gilby, leader of the council, said: “I appreciate that people will be disappointed by this but our top priority is to keep everyone safe and ensure essential services keep running as far as possible.

“If you have tickets booked for one of the shows at our theatres, the council’s staff will be in touch as soon as possible.”
