Sam Jones, who grew up in Hundall in North East Derbyshire and now lives in Rugby, and Ash Cook, of Unstone, will ride their mountain bikes 500 miles in five consecutive days from April 22 for Prostate Cancer UK.

The pals say it is a charity ‘close to their hearts’ as they have had family members affected by the cancer.

Sam, who now lives in Rugby in Warwickshire, told how his grandfather and his partner’s grandfather have both survived the illness and received support from Prostate Cancer UK.

He added: “With current conditions in the UK, it has become extremely difficult for charities to fundraise in the normal ways and many charities are feeling the crunch.

“Prostate cancer is one of the deadliest forms of cancer and has stolen too many people.

“Prostate Cancer UK has been helping lead the fight providing information and supporting people with their struggle and they need our support.

“We are hoping to raise £1,000 for the charity with our bike challenge.”

The route will consist of a different 100-mile loop every day exploring the majority of Warwickshire

According to the NHS website, prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men in the UK, with more than 40,000 new cases diagnosed every year.

It usually develops slowly, so there may be no signs for many years.
