Former mayor's donation to Age Concern Chesterfield and District

Chesterfield’s former mayor has presented a cheque to his chosen charity to mark fundraising efforts during his year of office.

Councillor Gordon Simmons raised £6,798.84 for Age Concern Chesterfield and District during his term as mayor from 2019 to 2020.

He presented the cheque during a virtual meeting via Zoom.

Coun Simmons said: “I’m delighted I could present the cheque to Age Concern Chesterfield and District and I’m proud of what we managed to raise despite the many challenges we have faced through Covid-19, sadly many of the fundraising activities we had originally planned couldn’t go ahead.”

The Mayor’s Appeal is an annual charity drive led by the Mayor of Chesterfield, to raise funds for a charity of their choosing.

Age Concern Chesterfield and District is a voluntary organisation that supports older people, their families and carers, by providing information, services and help and tackling issues that affect the elderly in Chesterfield, North-East Derbyshire and Bolsover District Council areas.

The charity operates a telephone befriending and support service which provides a link to a trained volunteer up to three times a week. The volunteers can take action on behalf of an elderly perso n if so required, tackle issues of discrimination or prejudice that they may be facing or direct them towards advice on welfare benefits or care in the communi ty.
