James and Jean Beard, 93 and 91 respectively, toasted their platinum wedding anniversary at Morton Grange care home in Alfreton on March 25.

Because of coronavirus restrictions, their loved ones couldn’t be there in person – but staff made sure they were able to join the celebrations electronically.

Happy 70th wedding anniversary to James and Jean Beard!

The pair met at a dance – and in fact they went on dance together all their lives until ill health prevented them.

They were married at Christ Church in Chesterfield in 1950

Jim was an electrician while Jean worked at Marks and Spencer.

They have two children, Paul and Linda, three granddaughters, Gemma, Rachel and Maria, and one great-grandchild, Erik.

The happy couple received a card from the Queen.

Asked for the secret to a long and happy marriage, the couple said: “Doing things together – especially dancing.”
