The small parrot is thought to have been attracted by the playtime snack crumbs when it landed on the children’s playframe at St Peter and St Paul School, in Hady Hill, last week.

Now, the school is appealing for help to trace the Cockatiel's rightful owners – and says it is keeping the bird’s colour and markings private in an effort to do so.

"One of our team who has previously kept exotic birds as pets has taken the bird home with her until hopefully someone makes contact with the school. It was very happy, singing and tweeting in the staff room.

"It is clearly well looked after so can only have recently got loose. We have sent out messages on Twitter and Facebook with a hope that people will share.”
