As previously reported by the Derbyshire Times, the protest was planned to start at Rykneld Square at 11am on Saturday.

Chesterfield lead nurse Matthew Tacey, the organiser of the protest, said: “The main reason for cancelling the protest was to ensure the NHS would be as strong as it can be to continue our fight against Covid and protect the public.

“The virus is real, the virus is still strong and the fight against Covid is far from over.

“Although Saturday has been cancelled, our fight is far from over.

“I urge you all to remain involved and keep an eye out for future demonstrations and actions.

“Together we will win and together we will make history,” he added.
