Every Thursday at 8pm, people are being urged to clap to show appreciation for NHS staff and other key workers who are giving it their all during the coronavirus pandemic.

Councillor Mick Bagshaw, Community Independents ward member for Hollingwood and Inkersall on the borough council, is now urging people to also ‘turn the area blue’ on Thursday nights during the show of thanks.

Coun Bagshaw, also deputy mayor of Chesterfield 2019-20, said: “I feel it’s our duty to further support and recognise NHS staff and other key workers.

“We will be doing this each Thursday at 8pm by displaying blue lights in our gardens and windows.

“I’d like to appeal for residents to do the same and let’s show our true appreciation and turn Chesterfield and Staveley blue at 8pm each Thursday during this crisis.”
