Badger dies after being hit by vehicle in Derbyshire
A badger, named Barnabus, has died after it was hit by a vehicle and found by a bus driver.
Mid-Derbyshire Badger Group rescued the badger after it was hit by a vehicle in Bakewell on Tuesday night (January 21).
A bus driver alerted the group to the injured badger, who was named Barnabus in his honour.
The concussed badger was rushed to a vets 25 miles away, and was found to have lost a tooth in the accident.
The group updated their social media yesterday morning, to say that Barnabus was doing ‘far better’, and was on pain relief.
However, a further post was made this morning to inform people that Barnabus had deteriorated during the night, and had to be put to sleep.
The post said: “Barnabus deteriorated during the night and had seizures suggesting serious brain damage and has been put to sleep to save him suffering— feel quite upset but we did our best.”
