A paramedic from the Edale Mountain Rescue Team assessed the walker and gave her analgesia – a pain relief drug before she was packaged in a warm, specialist bag and carried back down the road on a stretcher before being transferred to hospital by East Midlands Ambulance Service.

Workers said the woman was treated more quickly, as the team could drive to the casualties location to give immediate care without access points being blocked off.

The team were called out again shortly afterwards at around 2.12pm, after they received a call that a distressed walker had fallen in a bog while on Burbage North and was suffering from a type of chest pain called angina.

Snowy and cold conditions on Saturday meant mountain rescue workers made their way over to the road vehicle, the casualty then made themselves known to the driver and clarified that they no longer needed assistance.

The team then helped the man who had fallen back down to his vehicle.

At 4.55pm Edale Mountain Rescue were requested to help a third walker who had sustained an ankle injury after slipping on ice while walking on Stanage Edge.

The casualty had become exhausted, having started their walk at 9.00am some distance away and needed help to get down.
