Snow has been falling across parts of the Peak District this morning.

Wintry showers have been reported in areas including Matlock and Bakewell.

Villagers from Sheldon, near Bakewell, said they had seen heavy snow.

On Twitter, @SheldonVillage posted the above picture and said: “There’s no major disruption yet, but we are all used to it up here and most have 4x4s.”

Laura Hewitt sent in this picture of snow near Smedley Street in Matlock earlier.

She said: “It’s not settled but there were huge flakes!”

Police reported snow-related crashes on the A57 Snake Pass but highways chiefs said the road was not closed but “passable with care”.

A Derbyshire County Council spokesman said: “We’ve had two gritters out patrolling higher ground this morning.

“We’ll be gritting all primary routes at 8pm subject to weather conditions.”

Weather forecasters have predicted cold conditions for this week with more snow likely by Friday.
