Partygoer is banned

Police on patrol in Staveley at 11.45pm saw a Ford Fiesta veer across the road towards them before correcting its position.

“They turned around and followed it and saw it nearly drive into another vehicle and narrowly miss some people crossing the road,” prosecutor Helen Griffiths told Chesterfield magistrates.

Luke Richardson pulled up in Mastin Moor and officers smelled drink on his breath when they spoke to him.

He went on to give a reading of 266mgs of alcohol in 100mls of blood, the limit being 80mgs. Richardson (22) of Wood Avenue, Creswell, admitted drink-driving. Presiding magistrate Paul Beard jailed him for eight weeks but suspended the sentence for a year. He also ordered Richardson to do 90 hours unpaid work and banned him from driving for four years, with £85 costs.

Richardson had been to a friend’s 30th birthday party earlier that night and drank an unknown amount of cider before deciding to drive home, said probation officer Jerry Starnes.
