Paralympian to join Gulliver’s birthday celebrations

A Paralympic gold medallist will join families flocking to Matlock theme park Gulliver’s to mark 35 years since the attraction first opened its doors.

Mansfield-born swimmer Oliver Hynd MBE, who won a gold medal representing Great Britain in the 2012 Paralympic Games, will visit Gulliver’s on Sunday, July 7, to add a touch of star quality to the birthday celebrations.

Oliver, 18, whose brother Sam is also a Paralympic swimming champion, will bring his gold medal, won in the SM8 200m individual medley at London 2012, and his MBE, bestowed in the Queen’s New Year Honours, to the party and give young fans the chance to chat to him, ask questions and pose for photographs.

The park is offering family tickets at the specially discounted birthday price of just £35 for four people on July 6 and 7.

Park manager Lee Stacey said: “Ollie is a local lad and everyone in the area was so proud of the Paralympic success achieved by the Hynd brothers – we are delighted to welcome him as our special guest at the party.”

Families who attend the park during its birthday weekend will be treated to performances from CBeebies ZingZillas, who are touring the theme park company’s three locations.

Gulliver’s Kingdom opened in 1978, and has been one of the Midlands’ most popular tourist attractions for the last 35 years. Set in the picturesque hills of Matlock, overlooking the Derbyshire Dales, the theme park specialises in affordable days out for families with children aged two to 13.
