We need to retain TIC

I was absolutely flabbergasted to learn that Derbyshire Dales is to withdraw Tourist Information from Matlock Bridge – as has already happened at Matlock Bath.

Matlock is a town disproportionately dependent upon tourism. That is its reason for being.

To get rid of Tourist Information, here, is like Stratford-upon-Avon shutting its theatre or Southwell boarding up its Minster.

Nor are the Matlocks blessed with any magnet hotel (except the New Bath). Therefore, local B&Bs are also reliant on a busy Tourist Information Centre. To say nothing of Derbyshire writers and publishers.

This surely is the unkindest cut of all.
