Letter: It's not such a wonderful time of the year for many people
and on Freeview 262 or Freely 565
It may be for the monarchy and those rich enough to not to have to worry about the cost of anything. For ordinary people, it is possibly the worst time of year. There will be thousands of people unable to heat their homes thanks to cuts to the winter fuel payments. Everybody would love to have a bit of spare cash but, despite the minister saying she wants to get people back into work, I would like her to tell me where these jobs are. I know many young people who have applied for multiple jobs, but the advertisers of these "vacancies" haven't the decency to respond. We are bombarded daily with advertisements for the latest "must haves", especially toys, and this will mean many people will put themselves in serious debt so their children will have presents to open this Christmas. What about the homeless? "Oh! some of them want to be homeless!” I hear the braindead saying! I wonder if these people would like to sleep out in rain and snow at this time of the year. Christmas is not supposed to be about taking, but giving to the least well-off and deprived in society, something the monarchy, the rich and "Labour" Party seem to have forgotten.
