Letter: It's not a good position for Trump to have carte blanche

The latest outburst from President Trump, in which he publicly accused Ukraine President Zelensky of ‘gambling with World War Three’, has been perceived by many to place him on an unwanted par with Putin.

He invited Zelensky as a guest to America to discuss signing an agreement with him to mine rare minerals in Ukraine in a quoted one trillion dollar deal which would benefit both parties.

It is highly bad manners, undiplomatic and counter-productive to order your guest from the White House with the parting shot ‘he can come back when he is ready for peace’.

European leaders have since expressed their continued support for Ukraine

It is a sobering thought that the American political system allows their President far more power than other western leaders.

Technically, he is accountable to the US Congress and Senate for his actions but in reality he appears to have carte blanche in doing what he deems best for America – is this good for his Nato allies?
