LETTER: Price of parking is to blame for Chesterfield's decline

I am a market trader in the centre of town and from what I see the reasons for the decline are expensive parking and that the council is concentrating more on ticketing cars rather than attracting people to come to town.

It seems to me it is as though they are on a mission to put people off coming to the town Also I have see a huge problem in anti-social behaviour, as in drunks and extreme behaviour in the centre.

In my view the powers that be do know and fail to act.

I feel they are concentrating more on making money rather than doing what the real job is and that is to run a market and a centre. Traders are leaving the market in droves and questions need to be asked whether the council’s actions are really boosting the trade in town or just the council’s coffers?
