LETTER: Pathetic excuse for car park closure

Regarding the closure of the temporary car park on Mansfield Road for Grassmoor Country Park and Five Pits Trail. It is a bad decision by Derbyshire County Council, to not make this car park permanent.

It is a well used car park that made Grassmoor Country Park available to the ‘less able’ amongst us.

How a complaint by a resident, when the car park was situated well away from properties, was not an eyesore and posed no danger to other road users, could be used as an excuse by Derbyshire County Council not to make this car park permanent is beyond me.
Shame on you and your motto of “there when we need you”, what are you, our elected councillors doing for us? Nothing in my view.
Labour, you will not get my vote next time round I’ve voted Labour all my life and I’m now in my 70s). Birkin Lane car park (note: this is a main car park for Five Pits Trail and Grassmoor Country Park).
A large car park ? Not if you go up during a holiday period, when walkers and cyclists turn up on the same day. It’s not fit for use with potholes and sludge everywhere.

If a disabled or less-able person wanted to enjoy a stroll round the park the most difficult part is first to negotiate the car park.

Shame on you county council.
