LETTER: Face the penalties if you don't vote

With the ongoing furore concerning our leaving the European Union (EU) exposing hidden dangers never imagined at the time of voting.

With different sides using questionable figures to make their arguments, it is surely time to attempt to take uncertainty out of election results.

The referendum has shown election reform is long overdue.

The latest addition to post referendum thinking is those who didn’t bother to vote must have been satisfied with the way things were and should be classified as remainers giving a majority to the status quo and a different result.

I don’t pretend to know the answer but there must be an answer out there somewhere.

Consideration should be given to compulsory voting with penalties applied to none voters.

No longer should anyone be able to excuse themselves by saying I don’t bother voting they are all alike.

If you want to live in this society you should be duty bound to make a conscious commitment to get decisions right.
