LETTER: Can you help with book?

I need the help of your readers to complete some of the details in a local interest book that I will be publishing later this year.

The book is entitled ‘When The Stars Came to Town’. The book will chronicle an eight year period between 1959 and 1966 when more than 40 shows visited Derby’s Gaumont Cinema.
At first the tours were headlined by leading home-grown artists such as Cliff Richard, Billy Fury, Adam Faith and later American stars such as Roy Orbison and Gene Pitney often topped the bill.

The line-ups would also include up-and-coming British artists, usually lower down on the bill.

For example, one of the acts supporting the Everly Brothers, Little Richard and Bo Diddly at Derby’s Gaumont cinema on October 11 1963 was the Rolling Stones who closed the first half.
These shows would attract large audiences from Derbyshire including Chesterfield, Ripley and Heanor and the book will share the memories of people who were there. It will also present a fascinating collection of photographs of 60s pop stars taken while they were in the town.
Other big names your readers may have seen include The Who, Joe Brown, Frankie Vaughan, Helen Shapiro, The Four Seasons, The Dave Clark Five, The Animals and there are many more.
If your readers recall seeing any of these pop package tours or have memorabilia including tickets, programmes or autographs I would love to hear from them.
They can contact me on 07801 560012 or email me at [email protected].
