Whilst taking a view on supporting school uniform, which as I understand it is the position of virtually all other secondary schools, I should like to say that in no way was I being critical of local people (Your Opinion, June 14. ‘Good to see well turned out pupils’).
I was merely questioning those responsible for local education, whether teachers or governors etc.
I gather at some point, parents in Wirksworth actually voted for the return of the school uniform but were overruled. Shrill and over-sensitive reckonings?
Of course, there are obviously far more important issues than school uniform. I should merely say that I believe it sets the tone and is generally something which creates pride and respect.
Incidentally, not only Bexley (Frith) and St Mary’s, Chesterfield, but Landau Forte College, Derby, all deprived areas and successful.
