Chesterfield people have their say on the prospect of pubs reopening without alcohol in April

With pubs and bars closed due to lockdown restrictions many people are wondering how they will reopen and what changes could be put in place.

A ‘booze-ban’ is currently being discussed by the UK government which would mean pubs could potentially reopen in April – but no alcohol could be served.

We asked our readers if they would still visit their local if this new measure comes into place.

Clarice Hodgkinson, said: “From someone who works in the bar industry, what's the point, we would have more hassle and complaints about a situation we have no control over, it was bad enough with only serving alcohol with food.”

Not everyone thinks the ‘booze-ban’ will work.

Dave Spanswicksaid: “It must be a very intelligent virus that can tell the difference between somebody drinking beer and coffee.”

Paul Jnr Brocklehurst, said: “How do they expect the landlords and landlady's to make any money.“Don't you think they have had it hard enough as it is?”

But others want to support independent businesses.

Sarah Phillips, said: :”At this point in time I'd happily go anywhere different than home.”

Joanne Unwin, said: “I would love to be able to go out for food again, but not all pubs serve food.”

But Charlotte Mason pointed out that not everyone drinks alcohol.

She said: “I don't go to pubs to drink anyway, I'm tee total, as is my husband.“We only went for a meal out occasionally, but I'm not sure we're quite comfortable with that yet.”
