Opera, music and books: bumper programme unveiled for 2015 Buxton Festival

The 16-day opera, music and book festival will take place from July 10 to 26.

Opera performances will include Verdi’s Giovanna d’Arco, directed by Olivier award-winning Elijah Moshinsky; Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor and a concert performance of Charpentier’s Louise.

There will be over 100 concerts and recitals featuring the likes of pianist Stephen Hough, the English Chamber Orchestra and Fitzwilliam String Quartet, plus the return of the popular jazz sessions in the Pavilion Café.

Over 40 speakers including Costa award-winning Helen Macdonald, Louis Di Berniere, Helen Castor and Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O’Connor will speak in the literary series. The event also offers family and free events.
